Gond painting for spa walls

Samode Safari Lodge has a separate spa building inspired by the vernacular architecture. I decided to take this approach forward and create a fresh and restful mood in the interiors. For the walls i wanted to use the texture created by traditional lepai, a practice commonly used to hand paint mud walls in the villages, and add an element of surprise by juxtaposing it with blue birds painted in gond style.

My sketches were very well translated by Gond artist, Venkat Singh Shyam. We decided to tone down the colours as we wanted a very subtle feel.

What amazing textures and backgrounds created by a simple white on white and different lines. Thanks for sharing. Makes me love my country and its people so much!

Beautiful to see these paintings back to the walls, where they originated. The closeups didn't make me like this too much - far too crude, but overall the walls look pretty.
